Married and father of three children. Graduated from the Technion in Industrial Administration and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Haifa. Held a number of positions in Hogla-Kimberly, including the company’s VP of marketing and sales, and in 1993, was appointed CEO of the company. From 2002 to 2005, he served as CEO of El Al. During his tenure, El Al managed to transform from a losing company into a profitable company, while increasing its market share, despite the difficult times known to the aviation industry in the world and in Israel and also transferred to El-Al an orderly privatization process in cooperation with all the company’s employees. He initiated and established the EFFIE competition for effective advertising and marketing and served as chairman of the Jury for about 5 years. He also serves as a director at Elron. In addition, Shapira serves as co-chairman on the Israeli side of the IPBC Israeli-Palestinian Business Council, established under the auspices of the World Forum Economic, which aims to promote business between the two parties. In October 2016, Shapira accepted the invitation of the management of the Alut Association to serve as chairman of the association.
